In the context of World Water Day, Alejandra Stehr offers an urgent reflection on one of the most critical challenges facing Chile: the relationship between access to water and social and territorial equity.

In her column published in País Circular, the author highlights that the water crisis the country is experiencing is not only due to climatic factors, such as prolonged drought and climate change, but also to structural gaps in resource management, available infrastructure, and ecosystem protection.

One of the central issues is inequality in access to water, where different communities face vastly different realities. This situation demonstrates that the problem lies not only in the availability of the resource, but in how it is managed and distributed.

Likewise, the report highlights the importance of making progress not only in terms of quantity but also in terms of water quality, adopting an approach that integrates the conservation of ecosystems and the services they provide.

In this context, integrated watershed management emerges as a significant step forward. However, the report emphasizes the need to strengthen its effective implementation, improve institutional coordination, and secure the necessary funding.

Finally, the column emphasizes that addressing the water crisis requires a comprehensive approach, combining solutions such as infrastructure, water use efficiency, reuse, and nature-based solutions.

The message is clear: ensuring sustainable and equitable water management is essential for moving toward a more just and resilient future in Chile.
