At NaturaInvest, we had the opportunity to co-organize the event "Sustainable Finance and Governance: Leading the transition in Chile" which brought together representatives from the public sector, banking, investment, insurance, academia, and the corporate governance community.
One of the day’s key highlights was the presentation of the Green Agreement Progress Report, whose findings offered a hopeful outlook: the agenda is moving forward from the establishment of commitments toward their effective implementation.
Among its main conclusions, it was noted that the fastest progress is being made in areas that depend on internal decisions and regulatory frameworks, such as governance, coordination, strategic planning, oversight, and the integration of ESG criteria into investment and credit decisions.
At the same time, significant challenges remain in areas that require better data, metrics, and coordination with third parties, particularly in:
• Measuring the carbon footprint and financed emissions.
• Standardization and comparability of ESG data.
• Nature, biodiversity, and natural capital.
• Technical capabilities and coordination with external stakeholders.
These gaps also reflect a greater maturity of the agenda: the challenge is no longer merely to establish sustainability, but to strengthen the information, capabilities, and systems necessary to implement it across the board.
We then held a panel discussion marked by lively debate among the various industries represented. Perspectives from the banking, investment fund, and insurance sectors allowed us to address the role of governance, risk management, the integration of sustainability into institutional strategy, and opportunities for public-private collaboration to accelerate the transition.
We would like to thank Felipe Larraín, Carolina Lopez, and Fadua Gajardo for their opening remarks; María Paz Gutierrez for presenting the Green Agreement Progress Report; and Pilar Concha, Gabriel Correa, and Javier Irarrázaval for sharing their experiences and perspectives during the panel moderated by Beatriz Calderón. We would also like to thank Rodrigo Arriagada, for leading the event and providing key insights on the topic.
Thanks also to the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), the IdDC, the Chilean Institute of Directors, Chapter Zero Chile, and CLAPES UC for their joint organization, and to the Public-Private Green Finance Roundtable of the Chilean Ministry of Finance for its collaboration. We would also like to thank all the attendees who made this event possible.
We continue to promote opportunities for dialogue that allow us to bring different perspectives together, strengthen partnerships, and translate sustainability commitments into concrete decisions! Thank you
